E&J’s elopement in Appenzell in the heart of the Alps was nothing short of a real-life wedding fairytale. The Appenzell elopement was the kind of wedding love story that feels too magical to be true. Think dramatic skies, misty mountain lakes, wildflower meadows and two people wildly in love. Honestly, even Disney would be jealous.
But here’s the thing: what made it truly unforgettable wasn’t the epic scenery (though there was plenty of that) – it was the realness of it all. The quiet moments, the raw emotions, the laughter. This wasn’t just a wedding-it was an elopement experience vowed from everything that made them who they are.

Their Swiss elopement in Appenzell unfolded over two incredible days filled with every weather you can imagine – rain, clouds, golden sunlight breaking through the mist. It was the kind of natural drama that makes mountain elopements in Switzerland so breathtaking.
They started their journey tucked away in a cozy mountain lodge, getting ready with big smiles and exited hearts. From there things got a little wet as they had their first look by the lake and wrote their vows together on a boat on the alpine lake. The soft drizzle only made the moment more intimate and cinematic.

The wedding ceremony itself? Just the two of them on the rocky shores, surrounded by fog and mountain peaks. No guests, no pressure – just them and their intemate heartfelt vows of commitment to each other.

The couple popped champagne in the middle of a lush green meadow, surrounded by bright yellow flowers and towering Swiss mountains. It was a joyful moment – just the two of them soaking in the beauty of this green elopement in Appenzell.

After their intimate three course elopement dinner at the mountain hotel, the couple ended the evening with a peaceful boat ride on the lake. Day-after Elopement hike and picknick
The day after their main elopement day, the couple set out on a relaxed hike around the Swiss mountain lake – a peaceful mountain lake tucked away in the Appenzell Alps close to Austria. They stopped for a picnic in the grass and enjoying the quiet and the stunning views. Along the way they met the local farmer and he allowed them to use his land for their wedding picnic. They also had some fun taking pictures with their polaroid camera to remember the day. It was the perfect slow morning after their Swiss elopement – easy, authentic, and full of charm.

KIND WORDS fROM THE COUPLE
We knew we wanted to elope somewhere in Europe but had never been before and didn’t know where to start. We also didn’t have a specific plan, just a general idea of what we wanted the experience to feel like. Working with Malin made all the difference.
She lives in Switzerland and brought a ton of local knowledge to the table. She took time to actually get to know us, asked thoughtful questions about what we were hoping for, and built a plan that matched everything we were looking for, even things we didn’t know we wanted. She also included built-in flexibility for unpredictable weather or last-minute changes, which ended up being really important (we did have rain!).
Throughout the whole process, she was super communicative and open to meeting whenever we needed—even across time zones. On the day of, she made us feel comfortable and gave just the right amount of direction without making anything feel forced. She also found a private, quiet spot for our ceremony that felt really special.
The photos came quickly and we love them. They captured the atmosphere and emotion of the day in a way that feels very true to how it all happened including some great moments in the rain which, thanks to Malin, turned out to be some of our favorites. We could not have picked a better person to plan and capture our elopement. She was warm, fun, professional, and clearly experienced. If you’re on the fence, trust us: go with Malin.

What makes Switzerland special for elopements?
The answer from me, the Elopement planner and Photographer is that there are just so many reasons to elope in Switzerland. Switzerland has just so many epic mountain sceneries and it’s so easy to access them. You will be unique as elopements are not a thing yet in Europe.
