If you want to be completely alone on your wedding day, you’ll need to choose a location that’s a bit off the beaten path or get around it with using the early morning hours.
Time of year: Mountain weather varies depending on the location and time of year. Consider the temperatures, weather patterns, and if there’s a possibility of snow on the ground when making your decision.
Altitude: This factor is the most important if you are eloping in spring or autumn. Will the snow and the mountain lakes be melted? Will you be surprised by the first snow fall (hint: this is not necessarily a bad thing)?

Lauterbrunnen is clearly my most demanded location for spring, summer and autumn elopements. Best time is spring when the waterfalls are at their fullest. Lauterbrunnen has mesmerising and unique sceneries for sure and plenty of possibilities to combine other nearby locations such as Grindelwald, Wengen, and the whole Interlaken / Berner Oberland region. But if you want something more “off the beaten track” look further down on the list.

Best place to elope in Lauterbrunnen
There are several beautiful Instagram locations but you don’t want to elope there as often there is a queue to take a picture there. And in Lauterbrunnen there is almost no grass where you are allowed to step out on anymore as it’s privately owned land. There are a couple of options but generally I recommend just to pass Lauterbrunnen for a couple of pictures and elope elsewhere in the Jungfrau region.

Zermatt Elopements
Zermatt is one of the 2 most demanded elopement locations in Switzerland for sure. Especially for winter and ski-elopements. With all right because Zermatt has Matterhorn and adventure elopements in Zermatt offers a unique blend of romance, adrenaline, and natural beauty. There is something for everyone in this picturesque little paradise.
Here’s a cool thing: you can ski in Zermatt almost all year round, perfect for adventurous couples who want to ski on their wedding day! The town itself is car-free, so you’ll arrive by train which makes the mountain experience more unique.

There are many great spots for a unique Zermatt elopements. The lakes are amazing but avoid to elope there when the gondolas/train runs. Matterhorn is visible from the whole ski area so there are a lot of amazing elopement locations that are completely intimate.

For summer elopements it’s end of June to October (October elopements for orange larches and August elopements for stargazing). Avoid to elope here during bridge seasons – May and November.

More or less the whole shore is crowded daytime so you’ll need to get off the shore if intimacy is important. Or elope when the gondola is closed.
2025-2026 update: The area is struggling with mass over tourism, which is causing environmental damage. Cable car operators and local landowners are asking couples and photographers has sometimes told elopement photographers and couples not to come and to choosing a different location for their elopements. Information has been conflicting with the information they have given to the Swiss tourism board. Generally you don’t elope IN Interlaken. But Interlaken is close to a huge amount of amazing locations for an elopement. You’re close to thrilling mountain ridges, cute towns, waterfalls and amazing places like Brienz, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Rosenlaui. If you choose an “all in” elopement on two or more days you can include several of the amazing elopement locations and activities you are dreaming of.

In this area it’s possible to elope almost all year round, somewhere. But you need to choose the altitude! Winter elopements – I would not recommend to elope here. If you want a mountain elopement the best time is May to October.

The classics are Bachalpsee or First (but expect crowds when gondolas are open). By bad weather some locations in the valley, on the Eiger trail. Eloping on two days would allow you to combine with Lauterbrunnen and add a helicopter elopement on the biggest glacier in Europe.
